Web Sources for Science EducatorsThis document can be used as a guide to some web sites helpful to science educators. It is not intended to be comprehensive, but will give you some places to start your search. All links were working on 9/27/02.
Education World's goal is to make it easy for educators to integrate the Internet into the classroom. Schools, Educational Institutions, Non-profit Agencies, and Private Parties may link to, print, and/or redistribute original Education World material from the Web site without requesting prior permission. Please include a credit indicating that Education World is the source, and cite the proper URL (http://www.education-world.com) . The Education World site contains lesson plans, reference resources, educational standards, links to professional development sites, and much more. I believe the easiest place to start navigating this large and complex site is the index page. American Association for the Advancement of Science Government Sites are another good source:The Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. It is a Consortium effort to provide educators with quick and easy access to thousands of educational resources found on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial Internet sites. http://www.thegateway.org/ The mission of Eisenhower National Clearinghouse [ENC] is to identify effective curriculum resources, create high-quality professional development materials, and disseminate useful information and products to improve K-12 mathematics and science teaching and learning.. ENC is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI) http://www.enc.org/resources/ Rated web sitesThe Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT) is an international cooperative for high quality online resources to improve learning and teaching within higher education. The cooperative connects systems, consortiums, and institutions of higher education, professional organizations of academic disciplines, and individual members to form a community of people who strive to enrich the teaching and learning experience. http://taste.merlot.org/ Blue Web'n Web Sites is an online library of 1200+ outstanding Internet sites categorized by subject, grade level, and format (lessons, activities, projects, resources, references, & tools). You can search by grade level (Refined Search), broad subject area (Content Areas), or specific sub-categories (Subject Area). Each week 5 new sites are added.
