Hardware and Software Requirements
Installation Instructions
You'll need to install the DiscoveryGate software in order to get all the program features to work on a Windows platform. This program uses Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.2_06 or 1.5.0 but not 1.6.x. You can tell what version of Java you have by launching Java via the Windows control panel, then choosing About. If JRE 1.4.2_06 or higher is not present, the DiscoveryGate installer will install it. Some error messages may occur if running with JRE 1.6x.
- You'll need to have Windows administrator credentials in order to install DiscoveryGate.
- Go to http://www.discoverygate.com. Disable your browser's popup blocking feature for this site.
- Click on "Download Software" - this is a small gray tab a little above the "Search Databases" box.
- Ignore the links on the left and click on the large "Download" button. (~45 MB) on the right.
- Locate and run the Installer file. You should close all other applications before beginning the installation; you will be prompted to close Internet Explorer if you don't do it beforehand.
- After installation, return to http://www.discoverygate.com. Click on "Search Databases".
- The installation puts a folder called DiscoveryGate in Windows Start/Programs. Inside that folder is the Hop-Into Configuration Tool. Hop-Into is a feature that is not part of Cornell's subscription; the configuration tool can be deleted.
