IMPORTANT - Settings Changes 2008!

Note: The Commander client is no longer being developed for the Macintosh platform. To date, version 6 for the Mac OS 9 Classic environment is still being supported.

Note for OS X users: You may choose to start your Mac under Mac OS 9 for the installation. After the installation, Commander will run in the Mac OS 9 Classic environment. Newer Macintoshes can no longer start up with Mac OS 9, but the installation can run in the Classic environment from within Mac OS X.

1. Download the installer: CrossfireV6_Installer.hqx
2. Launch the installer.
3. If previous versions of Commander were installed and you are attempting to install it in the same location, you will be warned that the contents of the old folder will be erased.
4. Launch the Commander program, then initiate a session by clicking on the red cross arrows icon.
5. You will get an "MDL Crossfire Server Profiles" dialog box. Select " New..."
6. You will now get an "MDL Crossfire Server Profile" dialog box. All Settings should be left at the default except for host address: crossfire-acad.elsevier.com (Note: It is no longer necessary to modify the login script. )
7. Click on the Communication Tab and check to be sure the Port is set to XFIRE and the Port Number is 8001.
8. After making the change above hit OK. You will be asked to give your profile a name. Type the name in the "Create MDL CrossFire Profile" field and hit Save.
9. You will get the "MDL Crossfire Server Profiles" dialog box again. Select the profile you just created.
10. Next you will be asked for your Group Name and Client Name. Enter "cornell" in both places and hit OK.
11. The last item to complete is putting in the User ID and Password. When prompted, enter the User ID and Password - all in lower case:
    • User ID: cornell
    • Password: m4rfdk
12. Click OK to continue on. (Note: If you don't want to be prompted for the user ID and password each time you use Commander, you can check the Save user id and password box. Don't try to change the password; it won't work. )

Note: the default installation of Commander uses MDL IsisDraw as the default structure editor. You can change this to the MDL Crossfire Structure Editor under the OPTIONS/Structure Editor menu.
